News · Article 1 - Business Booming At WSC
· Article 2 - 'Alien' Life Spotted At WSC · Article 3 - Seven Of The Best · Article 4 - Music Competition · Article 5 - Book Competition Business Booming At WSC ![]() ‘Utensil Mental’, a group of Year 10 students from WSC, have been celebrating their success at Business Enterprise 2006. A competition designed to encourage team work and inventive thought, ‘Utensil Mental’ competed and won against teams from schools across East Kent. The task was to invent an original product or provide a service that could easily be marketed and sold on a commercial scale. The judges were looking at the group’s presentation style, their enterprise ideas, their written presentation style and business plans. Having won the WSC heat, ‘Utensil Mental’ moved on to the Pfizer stage, where they had to present to 120 people! To even reach this nerve wracking stage was an achievement, as WSC students have never competed in the competition before. It was therefore with great pride and a certain amount of amazement that ‘Utensil Mental’ won best written presentation and the prize of a visit to the BBC. Speaking after the event, Michael Huggins, a member of ‘Utensil Mental’, said, “We were proud that we reached the Pfizer stage and happy just to be taking part. We never imagined that we would win a prize. When the announcement was made we couldn’t believe it. I can’t wait to go to the BBC. I’m hoping I will see someone famous!” Everyone at WSC would like to congratulate ‘Utensil Mental’ and all the other students who took part in Business Enterprise 2006. They did themselves, and the college, proud. Back To Top 'Alien' Life Spotted At WSC ![]() Aliens and earthlings filled the stage at Walmer Science College as the summer production, “The Best of Both Worlds”, was shown to over 500 people over three nights. Students from years 7, 8, 9 and 10 told the story of how everyone can learn to live together despite their differences if they take time to get to know each other. Written by two teachers at the college, Miss Greig and Mrs Lodwick, with music from some of the Year 10 GCSE music group, the audience hailed it a resounding success. Miss Court, the dance teacher at Walmer said, “The students worked very hard and we are all proud of them.” Miss Johnson told us that she really enjoyed seeing the children put their energy into such a worthwhile project: “Too often today children have a negative image in the media which is totally unfair as they have so much to offer.” Congratulations to all students and staff involved in the production.
